FLOORING FIXING & CARE
Oak is a very durable hardwood that needs only simple treatment to enhance it and extend its long life. All J W Faulding products are beautifully made and require a minimum of sanding before applying finishes.

Protective Finishes
J W Faulding recommend finishing doors and floors with a few coats of Danish Oil to really bring out the grain, texture and colour. This is much easier to apply than lacquers and easily recoated in the future to maintain the finish. Scratches can be repaired and only the immediate locality recoated, not the whole area.

Stains
Oil based stains can be used to colour the oak if desired, before applying the Danish Oil. Coloured stains and a wide range of varnishes can also be used to customise the colour and finish.

Seasoned Timber
All the oak we use for floors and doors is fully seasoned, kiln dried timber. But we recommend storing timber, stacked loosely on battens, in the room it is to be used in, for a long as possible, with the heating on as normal to fully acclimatise, before fitting. This particularly applies to floor boards to be laid over underfloor heating and we also recommend narrower boards for this use. We can advise on the minimum storage time before laying.

Laying Floor Boards
Oak is a durable hardwood, but it is essential to avoid contact with moisture. Concrete underfloors especially must be fully damp proofed and we can supply suitable adhesives.

Fixing
Flooring can be secret nailed to joists with a nailing gun or can be fixed to fully damp proofed concrete floors using a special adhesive, which we can supply if required.

Underfloor Heating
Our flooring can be laid over underfloor heating but, as in all cases, we recommend stacking boards loosely in the room with the heating on full, for as long as possible, before laying. We will advise the minimum time required.
